I just realized why I’ve never been a fan of Tex-Mex food. I had never really tasted authentic Tex-Mex before I moving to Texas. What passes as Tex-Mex on either coast really isn’t cutting it.
Since arriving in Austin two weeks ago, I keep seeing signs advertising breakfast Tacos. The thought of having Tacos with my green tea in the morning, turns my stomach. Yuck. Please, If I’m going to break down and have carbs for breakfast, I’ll take an onion bagel with chive cream cheese and lox please. But I digress, I’m trying to blend in and do what the natives do. Besides, I came to Austin to try new things.
Today I tried Taco of the Month: The Washingtonian, Smoked Pulled Pork, Grilled Onions, Chipotle BBQ Sauce, Sour Cream, Jack Cheese, Avocado, & Pickles on a corn or flour tortilla. I love the tangyness of the pickles combined with the BBQ sauce, sour cream and a perfect bite of crispy pork.
So far my favorites are…
Eggs, Green Chilies, Crisp Corn Tortillas, Pico de Gallo, Avocado, and Shredded Cheese on your choice of Tortilla!
4 oz of Grilled jalapeno sausage, shredded cheese, pico de gallo, in a flour tortilla served with our poblano ranch sauce.
Green Chili Pork Taco
Slow roasted pork carnitas simmered with green chilies and topped off with queso fresco, cilantro, onions, and a lime wedge served on a corn tortilla with our green salsa
Ordering Tip: Get the Chips & Green Chili Queso so you have something to nibble on while you are waiting for your tacos. The green chili queso topped off with guacamole, queso fresco, cilantro and Torchy’s own Diablo sauce. (Diablo: roasted habanero chilies blended with vinegar, spices, and tomato)
The latest location, Torchy’s Tacos North 4211 Spicewood Springs Rd has a drive thru, which will come in handy if you don’t go early enough to beat the brunch crowd.
